Latvian School, 1920s

Vorticist Cat

oil on card

28 x 37 cm.

The Art School of Riga, Latvia, until the 1990s;

Private collection, UK.

The present painting was deaccessioned from the Art School in Latvia in  Riga some time in the 1990s, along with a large group of 1920s work (presumably by students from the art school at that time). It's signed in cursive Cyrillic 'N Goncharova', not to be mistaken with the prominent Russian artist, Natalia Goncharova, but more likely a student  at the art school with the same surname and initial. It shows the widely experimental style of art being taught, at that time.
