Muriel Rose is more famous as a gallerist and for her seminal book, 'The Artist Potter in England', 1954, than as an artist, but it is no surprise that she painted flowers here in a beautiful Omega vase.
She was also an exponent of textile design, and was one of the founders and trustees of the Crafts Study Centre, to which she left her own colleciton.
She founded the Little Gallery at 5 Ellis Street, near Sloane Square, in London in 1928, with her friend and collaborator, Margaret Turnbull, where they sold crafts including pottery, patchwork, and quilting. Among the rosta of artists they promoted and sold were Phyllis Barron, Dorothy Larcher, Enid Marx, Catharine Cockerell, Tirzah Garwood, Katherine Pleydell-Bouverie, Norah Braden, Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada and Michael Cardew.
