Spurrier was based variously in Reigate and Dorking, but the present painting was exhibited with Sussex Artists at the Brighton Art Gallery in 1963, although appears to have been painted earlier than that, and shows the influence of the likes of her contemporary, who it is quite possible she knew, Sir Cedric Morris.
