Watts was the daughter of a paper merchant based in Blackheath, with a talent for drawing and a natural interest in works on paper. She attended Blackheath School of Art and also the Grosvenor School. She was undoubtedly influenced by the work of fellow print-makers of the Grosvenor School, Cyril Power, Lill Tschudi and Sybil Andrews.
