Little is known of the Australian-born artist, Muriel Miller, although she produced woodcuts very much in the style of Eric Gill, suggesting she may well have been in that artist's circle. Undoubtedly here she was also taking inspiration from the  early Italian Renaissance fresco of the expulsion of Adam & Eve, painted around 1425 by Masaccio, Masolino and others on  the walls of the Brancacci Chapel in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence.
