Known for most of her life simply as ‘Orovida’, she was the only child of the French artist Lucien Pissarro, and granddaughter of Lucien Pissarro - but made a point of distancing herself from the Impressionist and post-Impressionist styles of her family. Orovida chose etching as her primary interest and although she studied briefly with Walter Sickert in 1913, she renounced formal art training and worked in her own idiosyncratic way, moving in ‘outsider artist’ circles in East London. She never married.
