This richly coloured multi-block woodcut depicts a farmstead in Ormesby, north Yorkshire, framed by a great bare-branched tree in full autumn colour. The strong, expressive black outlines and bold use of layered colour are hallmarks of the British Japanese-influenced woodcut tradition.

Elizabeth Scorer Dickson was a Yorkshire printmaker working in the interwar period, with pieces in the Hartlepool Museums and Heritage Service. Woodcut print-making in Britain was a practice which offered women in particular a chance to earn their living in the world of book illustration and advertising.
